Raleigh, NC Topography Diagram Map (February 1952) Southern Railway Yard and Station.

This 1952 topography print shows the Southern Railway yard and passenger station (now AMTRAK) on West Cabarrus Street near the Gas Works tank. The Southern Railway turntable and the West Martin Street bridge over the tracks to South Boylan Avenue are no longer there. The Boylan Avenue steel bridge has now been replaced and the Boylan Interlocking tower is also no longer there. The Norfolk Southern tracks cross the Southern Railway and Seaboard Air Line tracks heading NW out of Raleigh beside the Boylan Tower.

There are more Southern Railway storage tracks on the other side of the Boylan Avenue bridge in front of the old State Penitentiary. The long Norfolk Southern track trestle over West Cabarrus Street and Boylan Drive that merges into Western Blvd is still there.
